In April 1920, St. Teresa of Avila Parish was founded by Bishop Edmund F. Gibbons, who appointed Rev. James E. Kelly as Pastor to forty-five families.
Construction of the first Church began is September 1920.
A 75-year-old farmhouse on the corner of Maplewood Avenue became the first rectory.
